LEDs for Better Heart Health

You would never think that lighting would have anything to do with your cardiovascular health, but it certainly does. People's bodies are highly affected by the lights around them, and this in turn, affects the heart.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women. In the U.S. one out of four deaths are attributed to heart disease every year. In the world? 17.5 million people die from a heart condition a year.

What's important to understand is that heart disease can be prevented. Primarily, it can be prevented by a healthy diet and exercise. However, there are little factors that can also help keep people from a heart attack - lights.

According to The Plant Paradox, "blue light is one of the Seven Deadly Disruptors to our health. In fact, many cardiologists and heart surgeons agree that Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb is one of the biggest causes of our current epidemic of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and dementia."

Scientists warn people that night time light is bad for us because it messes up our internal clocks. We all have circadian rhythms that help us fall asleep and then wake up. That circadian rhythms work along with the sun rising and setting, but when the  body gets confused because of the light during the night, it can hurt people's sleep. This can then cause undue stress on the body, which is yet another factor in the risk of heart disease.

The Answer to Darkness

So, since most people don't want to go to bed as soon as the sun sets, there is a solution - LED lights. These lights do not contain as much blue light, which doesn't have as much of an affect on the body.

LED lights should still be dim, and they shouldn't be used more than what is needed. This means that you may want to just have your side table LED lamp on, not the lamp on, room lights, and every other lights around you on. Your body should know it is time to calm down because the day is over.

In the busy life we lead, it can be difficult to wind down after a long day just because of all the activities we engage in throughout the days. This is more of a reason why it is so important to pay attention to what is around us and what could be affecting our sleep. Sleep repairs or mind and body, and without quality slumber, we won't be able to perform at our best, and for some people, it could lead to a life-threatening disease.
